My name is Darron Mills and joining Cohort 7 in 2023 of the Trauma and Resilience Life Coach program at ATI was truly life changing. The knowledge and skills I gained not only helped me thrive as a new trauma specialist but also gave me a deeper understanding of my own life and experiences. This program did not just advance my career, it transformed my family’s journey as well. With the insights I learned, my family and I were able to support my brother in his full recovery from bipolar disorder and schizophrenia, allowing him to sustain a healthy thriving lifestyle. I am forever grateful for the TRLC program and the incredible impact it has had on both my professional and personal life. I met a great group of professionals who became my friends and I am forever appreciative for the mentorship of Candice Raine and Dr. Robert Rhoton, who is always there for me when I reach out to them.
Dr. Rhoton has developed a very well-rounded program that [added] to my education. I really appreciated [the program’s] group setting, you’re still seen as an individual so answers are given to you based off of your knowledge and your experience. It’s not just a blanket set of information.
I’m so thankful for Dr. Rhoton and those at the Arizona Trauma Institute who have created this program. Finding training for coaches who want to help traumatized people is like finding a unicorn – like it just doesn’t exist. This program is going to equip you with everything that you need to transform people who are suffering and who are not getting the help that they need.
They really went above and beyond to make sure that we were as equipped as possible. I’ve taken several different courses throughout my time as a coach and none of them really felt adequate to me in terms of preparing me how to coach in session in the moment. To have the resources that they were able to provide and the support that they were able to give us really stuck out to me.

We revolutionize the understanding of trauma-informed care and resiliency through authoritative research-based education, fostering transformation in every life we touch.
What is a Trauma-Informed Perspective?
1. We see health as a continuum, not a dichotomy between sick and healthy.
2. We believe treatment should emphasize helping people create transformation by moving toward health.
3. We listen to a person’s story with an eye for their competency and capacity, rather than their “brokenness,” disease, or misery.
4. We focus on a process of incremental movement toward better health, functionality, and wellbeing.
5. We see stress as ubiquitous and stress management as a rehabilitative factor in opening up the possibility for transformation in others.
6. We believe people have the capacity to actively adapt. This means we emphasize active adaptation as the ideal.
7. We focus attention on a person’s history of movement through their trauma, redefining actions as indicative of competency and capacity rather than disease.
Our values:
Compassion: We are committed to meeting people where they are, free of judgment, and creating a safe space for growth. With kindness and understanding, we approach each individual’s unique experiences with the aim to empower and heal.
Self-Regulation: We continually assess our inner state and prioritize restoring balance to create environments where individuals can thrive. Through body awareness, mindfulness, and emotional regulation, we foster resilience and intentional responses, promoting stability in challenging situations. We lead by empowering ourselves and others to navigate life with calm, focus, and purpose.
Accountability:
We hold ourselves and each other responsible for living our mission and values with integrity and delivering work that meets our highest standards. Through transparency, self-awareness, and ethical practice, we take ownership of our actions and their consequences. By embracing accountability, we foster trust and ensure meaningful growth for ourselves and those we serve.
Growth: We champion continuous learning, development, and improvement, both personally and professionally. With a focus on progress over perfection, we embrace challenges as opportunities to evolve and expand our understanding. We strive to become the best versions of ourselves and inspire growth in those around us by staying curious and adaptable.
Service Excellence: We deliver top-tier, personalized service that exceeds expectations and supports individuals on their unique journeys.

There is a maximum of 25 people in each cohort to support an optimal learning experience for all participants. By keeping the group size small, we can foster a more personalized and interactive environment where each student receives individualized attention, greater access to facilitators, and the opportunity to actively engage in discussions. This approach ensures that each participant can fully immerse themselves in the learning process and build meaningful connections with peers and facilitators.
Each week, participants engage in a 90-minute Zoom call with a facilitator and fellow cohort students to discuss and practice course material.
